Role

Overview

SkinCircle is a community centered platform that brings ease to an individual’s skin care journey through trusted connections.

Through SkinCircle, a user can identify their skin care concerns and match to a trusted skin care community to discover solutions and products that can work best for them.

The Problem

Many users feel overwhelmed by the immense amount of skincare products on the market, making it hard to stick to a routine. As they try new products, users often end up disappointed when those products don’t meet their expectations.

Research

The research methodology conducted was remote user interviews to gain insight on a user’s process to find and buy new skin care and understand their pain points. Here were the major key findings:

Targeted Skin Care

Users want skincare that works for their specific concerns and helps them maintain healthy skin without fear of wasting money. Many feel skin care products “all do the same thing.”

Simple Routines

Users prefer to have skincare routines that are simple yet effective and that will not require constant changes. Users are more inclined to try new products for a “need.”

Trusted Sources

Users are inclined to buy a new skin care item through trusted recommendation or someone who has more knowledge of skin care. (dermatologist, family member, etc.)

Defining the SkinCircle User

Utilizing the insights from the user interviews, the ideal SkinCircle persona are “on the go” individuals in need of skin care for targeted concerns. With SkinCircle, users will enjoy an easier skincare experience and feel a sense of community along the way.

Solution

To refine the solution, I focused on the core question: “How might we empower users to build a trustworthy community for receiving skincare product recommendations tailored to their specific concerns?” This approach ensures that the solution directly addresses the users’ needs.

Designing the Solution:

Color Palette

To create the right emotional tone, I chose a vibrant orange as the primary color, symbolizing energy, vibrance, and freshness. Yellow complements this as a secondary color, adding a sense of fun and engagement.

Additionally, blue is incorporated as a secondary color to evoke trust, as users search for a trusted community.

Text Style

The montserrat font was selected for it’s light hearted feel, but it is still easy to read across devices.

Icon Set

The custom icons include the navigation bar, the ‘results’ icon for when users receive their skin results. The ‘profile’ icon and the ‘group’ icon which includes the 3 dots come from the SkinCircle logo. Lastly, the ‘pair’ icon was also created.

Logo Design

The SkinCircle stacked icon, with the addition of three dots on top representing a group of individuals. This aligns with SkinCircle’s brand value of community.

Wireframes

After curating the design style, I created low-fidelity wireframes through basic sketches, which then evolved into mid and high-fidelity prototypes.

Mid Fidelity Wireframes

During the mid-fidelity phase, I focused on digitizing the initial sketches to create an intuitive and engaging platform for SkinCircle. The key pages I focused on included the home page, skincare survey, results page, and the group discovery feature for joining SkinCircle communities.

High Fidelity Wireframes

In the high-fidelity stage, I implemented the curated color and text styles. By leveraging user feedback, I enhanced interactivity and emphasized the “community” aspect, making it easier for users to identify and connect with group members in their SkinCircle.

Final Prototype

SkinCircle allows users to join personalized communities, making their skincare journey easier through trusted connections. Take a look at the final prototype.
